Progressive complaint
In September 2005, I was in Silver Springs, Florida on vacation. A relative and I decided to go to Ocala shopping. I let her drive since she knew the area much better than I did.

I am very careful with my car partly due to the type work I do. Before the car was moved each time I made sure everyone had seatbelts on, the driver knew where the signals were, the lights, the dimmers, etc.

We left WalMart and hadn't gone very far when a van crossed traffic and hit us almost head on. He turned his wheel at the last minute. This happened in front of a Dairy Queen that was closed or closing.

The driver got out of the van with a pen and paper in hand and went straight to a man standing on the sidewalk. It was obivous they knew each other. They claimed we had no headlights. The headlights were on and when the tow truck got there they couldn't get them to turn off so the car was hauled away with the lights on.

The police and paramedics came. They stood in the corner of the parking lot laughing and joking with the driver of the van and his so called witnesses. It was obivous to everyone that they knew each other well. They said they couldn't take the report, that the FHP had to do that.

The FHP came and made a report. They simply ignored us except to ask for insurance and stuff. They gave the driver a ciatation based on what these witnesses said.

The witnesses claimed they saw us 200 feet away without lights driving recklessly.THey could see us 200 feet away but the van driver couldn't see us when he was right on us.

They were sitting in the parking lot of Dairy Queen. In spite of this they pulled out in front of us. They claimed we almost hit them, then almost hit another car. They were watching through their rear view mirror and saw us hit the van. They then turned and came back because they were afraid we'd say the van was at fault. This all happened in 200 ft. They also claimed they didn't know the people in the van.

Their story was so ridiculous I didn't think anyone would believe it but Progressive Insurance did.

The van driver claimed he was self insured when in fact he had State Farm. The witnesses gave an Ocala address when in fact they lived in Key Largo. The van driver was from Boca Raton.

The people in the van had a couple little poodle dogs. I think they were playing with them and not paying attention is the reason they drifted into our lane and hit us. Progressive refused to even investigate that.

I guess Boca Raton says money or or maybe they just think people from Kentucky are stupid. The adjuster would say things like,"If you knew anything about Florida"........or "according to Florida law",............Once he said it was just a good thing I wasn't driving and when I questioned why he said that he denied saying it.

When I pointed out to the insurance adjuster that they lied he literally bawled me out. He took their side without question and never even tried to protect my rights.

Finally after a year of nothing but working against me Progressive said they were going to call it 50/50. I had already had to pay a $500 deductible to get my car fixed. I also had to hire someone to bring us home and make a trip back to Florida from Kentucky to get the car.

I told Progressive I felt I should get half my deductible back at least. They told me that the people who hit us had an adverse reaction to us and they weren't going to ask for my money back.

I canceled Progressive insurance because of the negligent way they handled my claim.I was ripped off by them.

I have since learned of others who were in similar situations and Progressive did the same thing, paid off the other party no questions asked, and really worked more for the guilty party than for their insured.

I still think they owe me at least half my deductible.

Progressive did me wrong also. Did you report to the Insurance Commission and the Better Business Bureau? Does anyone else know of any agencies that can assist the ripped off? It sounds like we could file a group court file against them and seek damages.

I would like to hear others comments about Progressive Insurance. It has been almost a year and half since my car was wrecked by a negligent driver and Progressive did nothing to help me. They paid the at fault driver off simply because he said it was our fault. I hope if I ever have another accident its with a driver insured with Progressive. Maybe they will just pay me off because I say its someone elses fault.Progressive treats their insured drivers like dirt. They tell you where you can take your auto and if you don't take it there you have to pay the difference between the place they choose and the place you choose. In my case I didn't mind that so much even though since my car was under warranty I would have preferred a Honda dealer but I was out of state and didn't know where to go. I'm still waiting for them to pay me what they owe me. They should pay me the whole $500 because they know it wasn't my fault or the fault of my driver. It I owed them, I'd have to pay late fees or interest. I was only asking for half the deductible which I am entitled to.Everyone tells me I should sue them or go to the media and expose them for what they are.

If Progressive has done you wrong please comment on it here.
